Wrap-Up Post for the #WintersRespite #ReadAThon from @SeasonsofReading
My Goal Post was HERE.
I tweeted a few updates as to how I was doing on a book throughout the week.
Okay! Here is a wrap-up of how my #ReadAThon went!
Some of you may have read this yesterday from my NYTimes Top 15 (20) Bestseller Post I do every Sunday, so I apologize for repeating, but I need to do this to wrap-up this Read-A-Thon! Hope you understand! Thanks!!!
Here is how my week went! In the above paragraph, I wrote this in a Post I do every Sunday, so that will catch you up, and then I have a 2nd section I am adding from that same post. When you read it, you'll understand!
I want to say THANK YOU!!!!!! SO MUCH for holding this Read-A-Thon!!! I LOVED it!!! I always do!
This week I am participating in a Read-A-Thon! It's called #WintersRespite Read-A-Thon @SeasonsofReading and if you are interested in joining the next one, there are 4 per year, you can read my GOAL POST HERE! and sign-up for their email updates.
I'm starting off with the book called The Dress Shop of Dreams by Menna van Praag. Here is the cover! GORGEOUS COVER!!!! You can also go to that link I gave you and see what else I am reading, too! Twitter hashtags are included, too!
Today we are expecting a snowstorm of 11" and temperatures of 10 BELOW ZERO! Sounds for a GREAT day to snuggle up under the warmest of blankets/quilts to stay warm and read, read, read!
And this is how my week REALLY went:
Reviews - No! I'm afraid that's ALL I've been up to this week! The Read-A-Thon!
Why?
Well, I've been reading for the Read-A-Thon, but then life happened, too! GOOD life! Hubby wanted and got a 50" screen TV for our living/family room, (one in the same) this week! WOW!!! The people are LIFE size in here and sometimes larger! Yeah! I had to spend some time in UTTER AWE WITH MY MOUTH HANGING OPEN for some shows!! I honestly admit this TV GOT TO ME!!! WOW!!!! He DID make a GREAT decision!
I also had to spend a day waiting with my dog for the Dish Satellite TV guy to come, and I was nervous I wouldn't be able to herd my dog into the extra bedroom, so I was having a hard time keeping my attention trying to read. (What ended up working like a GEM were Beggin Strips Bacon!! Dogs LOVE those!!!) I had an afternoon window of 12-5:50 that he was coming. I sleep later because I have a hard time sleeping at night, so I didn't get up until about 10:30, wanted my shower, got a call saying he would be here between 3 and 5:30. Awesome! I got IN the shower, and the phone rings! NO!!! The timeframe moved up to 2:00 to 3:30 for his arrival. OMG! I'm stuck now! It all worked out though! Phew! It takes me a long time to shower/dress because I'm slow due to this neurological muscle disease I have, so generally it takes me a good two HOURS to get it all done! I was stressing a little because that was ALL the time I had! I was playing it SO close!
After he came and was gone, and it took a while because he ended up having a HUGE job to do, much more labor intensive than he EVER expected! Here's what happened! We never were able to watch Satellite in our bedroom, and of embarrassment that the TV we were trying to hook up was 28 YEARS OLD!!! Don't laugh at me - well, go ahead! Laugh!!! I am! LOL!!! We also had NO CLUE how to hook up our OWN TV with ONE CABLE, because it never worked!!! It HAD to be US! WE had to be doing something wrong!
So we had wanted a 2nd TV for quite a while, but it was always on the backburner. We also decided to wait until we had 'cash in hand' to buy the NEW TV, so you know how that goes! Other things get purchased FIRST! Finally, we did it!
The Dish Satellite installer was a gentleman! He was the nicest guy in the world!! Guess what? It was NOT our fault in NOT being able to hook the TV up!!! YES!!!!! Unfortunately, the original guy who hooked up our TV's NEVER hooked up our bedroom TV!!!! WHO would have thought that!
So the current guy got done doing this HUGE job he won't get paid for (long story) - did a GREAT job! (Dish Satellite - so if YOU want $50 off your bill, just PM me at laurieisreading at gmail dot com and I'll send you a certificate to get that $50 off! EVERY PENNY off you bill is awesome!) We've had Dish Satellite for almost 6 years now and LOVE it!!! We think it's WAY better than cable!!!
This screen is HUGE!!! I had to figure out how to handle to remote, too, as my husband depends on 'me' to teach him how to do all that jazz! LOL!!! Anyway, sorry, but yes, I have been enjoying this toooooooo much! LOL! Well, its hard NOT to, especially when it's right there, STARING YOU IN THE FACE!
OH!!!
I got to rent "Gone Girl"!!! WOW!!! What a movie!!! I am almost finished with that book, and that movie has spurred me on to put DOWN my books for review after this one (that's why I had to put it down before) and pick it up and finish it! I caught a few things that were a little different than the book, but there is NO WAY you can fit that book into a 2-1/2 hour movie, which did impress me! There are not that many movies that length, and that is a testament to how much the movie stayed as close to the book as it could! That book was GREAT too! Wow!!!
When I called the company to learn how to rent movies, etc., they guy suggested I try the movie Lucy. It has Morgan Freeman in it, and he is one of my FAVORITE actors!!! Hmmm! It sounds right up my alley! I LOVE psychological thrillers, as if you can't tell by some of the books I read! I think I'll have to try that movie out!
So HOW WELL did I really do?
AWFUL!!!!!!! I am at 85% into "Dress Shop of Dreams" by Menna van Praag
and I read NO other books.
I feel AWFUL to admit this! Although, I'm telling the truth!! This book is not as enjoyable as I thought it would be, so . . . I did NOT have that burning desire to pick this up. Actually, I AM glad I read it during a Read-A-Thon because I might NOT have read it all left on my own! So thanks again to our Sponsor!!!
Did I LOVE doing this Read-A-Thon? You bet I did!!!
And that is my WRAP-UP!
Thanks for reading this and following along with my progress! I'll let you know MORE about the book in my review when I write it later this week! (No, I would NOT run out to the bookstore to buy and read it.)
I HOPE YOU had a GREAT week of reading, and a MUCH BETTER ONE THAN I DID!!!
Here's to FUTURE READ-A-THONS!!!!!

You're a riot, Laurie! I'm glad you got your big TV and that your dish service is now installed properly. Let the mega TV watching commence. lol
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad about how much you read. Things happen. My week went to pot early on. Just have to look forward to next time. Hope you will join me again!
Hi Michelle!
DeleteThanks for stopping by! Oh, yeah! The mega TV watching HAS been happening! It's AMAZING! Unbelievable that TV's can possibly keep getting better and better like this! WOW!!!
I read about your week, and I'm so sorry what you had to go through with losing your Great Aunt. They are the GEMS of families! Only time can help with that, unfortunately.
Despite what you had to go through, you still had a nice Read-A-Thon! I enjoyed it and DO plan on participating in the next one!
Thanks, again!
