In The Moon Sisters, her second novel, Therese Walsh wanted to write about one sister’s quest to find will-o’-the-wisp light, which was her mother’s unfulfilled dream. Also called “foolish fires”, these lights are sometimes seen over wetlands and are thought to lead those who follow them to treasure. Despite the promise, they are never captured and sometimes lead to injury or even death for adventurers who follow them. The metaphor of that fire – that some dreams and goals are impossible to reach, and that hope itself may not be innately good – eventually rooted its way into deeper meaning as the Moon sisters tried to come to terms with real-world dreams and hopes, and with each other, in their strange new world.
Olivia and Jazz Moon are polar opposites: one a dreamy synesthete, able to see sounds and smell sights and the other controlling and reality driven. What will happen when they are plunged into 24/7 togetherness and control is not an option? Will they ever be able to see the world through the other’s eyes and confront the things they fear the most? Death. Suicide. The loss of faith and hope. Will they ultimately believe that life is worth living, despite the lack of promise?
The writing of The Moon Sisters was a five year journey and at times author Therese Walsh felt like it was her own “foolish fire”. But remember, some fires are worth the chase!

Sisters - What they mean to me!
"Ode to Cindy, my Fraternal-Twin Sister"
We were asked to write a little about what sisters mean to us,
so here is what I have to say!
I never had a biological sister, but I made one very special friend
WAY back in Elementary School, going WAY back, and who would
have been my sister if we both had a sister!
There were shortcuts through the woods we rode on bikes that
would take us to each other houses in about 5 minutes, faster
than driving! We were inseparable! We even finagled ourselves
into each other's families when we were apart, we weren't. We
were at another's family
event! The two of us would intentionally find our own kind of
trouble ANYWHERE and we went everywhere, and we found our
trouble! The trouble we LOVED the most typically involved
finding guys, too! That was one of our specialties! LOL!
We even went EVERYWHERE together. "Boblo!" An amusement
park that was only accessible via boat on an island near Detroit!
That, was FUN! We went everywhere! Carnivals, house parties,
even had some of the same classes - by design, of course!
Everyone in school KNEW if I were around if Cindy were around,
the other one was right there somewhere!
We even concocted a story that we really were born fraternal
twins separated at birth! We had an entire story made up as to
how we were separated, and people BELIEVED US! LOL! Today I
can't remember exactly how it went, but we were PRO'S at
convincing people! The entire High School of 285 kids believed
us!! LOL!!!
Oh, what memories! We even had a special saying that was a
message only the two of us understood, and that was, "Did your
socks fall down, or did you pull them up?" LONG story there, but
we had issues with our socks! Cindy, mostly! She had this one
pair that had those individual toes! LOL! When I see them today,
I have to laugh! Those would be hard to fall down! So if we ever
got into a sticky situation, or needed some humor, even around
other people, we would ask that question and break out in
hysterics laughing! Awesome memories!
To this day we still keep in touch. Although we live much further
away from each other, and both of our lives took different
directions for the last almost 30 years or so now, we still keep
in touch and can pick up a conversation about anything at the
drop of a hat! Facebook helps, too!
She ended up with 4 kids! "4"! She was the LEAST likely person
I EVER thought would have 4 kids! LOL! Me? Oh, I only had 2,
and we both LOVE OUR KIDS like crazy! In fact, when I was first
pregnant with my daughter Liz, Cindy had come over to my
house to visit, and trust me, she drove a LONG way to come
over - at least an hour! We went to the playground so her
daughter had something to do. (She only had the one at the
time.) I was sitting on those "U" shaped swings, which were
killing my hips. Ordinarily those never hurt? Hmmm? Guess
what? That confirmed my suspicions! I was pregnant with my
first! She was the first to find out!
When I think back to my younger years, that IS the person I
think of. Cindy, my fraternal twin sister! CINDY! And friend
today, as well! Ode' to Cindy!
