#REVIEW AND #GIVEAWAY: never too late, a novel by Robyn Carr

Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr examines the lives of three sisters as they step beyond the roles of wife, mother, daughter and discover the importance of being a woman first.

Clare Wilson is starting over. She's had it with her marriage to a charming serial cheater. Even her own son thinks she's given his father too many chances. With the support of her sisters, Maggie and Sarah, she's ready to move on. Facing her fortieth birthday, Clare is finally feeling the rush of unadulterated freedom.

But when a near-fatal car accident lands Clare in the hospital, her life takes another detour. While recovering, Clare realizes she has the power to choose her life's path. The wonderful younger police officer who witnessed her crash is over the moon for her. A man from her past stirs up long-buried feelings. Even her ex is pining for her. With enthusiasm and a little envy, her sisters watch her bloom.

Together, the sisters encourage each other to seek what they need to be happy. Along the way they all learn that it's never too late to begin again.

REVIEWS

"A thought-provoking look at women…and the choices they make when they realize their lives aren't exactly what they expected—or thought they were."

—Kirkus Reviews on Four Friends

MY TAKE
5+ STARS!
This book is about three sisters, Clare, Maggie, and Sarah. We meet Clare first, and learn about her broken marriage, done by her multi-philandering now definitely soon to-be ex-husband. Clare’s mind is made up. She’s done giving him chances as he always wants her back, and for how long this time? This made it #4. She’s DONE! She’s leaving him!
One night when her to-be-ex was supposed to be out of town, she stops at her house where she used to live with her then husband so she could pick a few things up she wanted, yet when she walks into the supposedly empty house, she hears, then SEES her to-be Ex has picked right back up again, now with #5 (or could it be even more?) with a blonde liaison in what used to be her marital bed!
As she is driving home after she sees that, she is unknowingly T-boned by an SUV into her little Toyota which required the jaws of life to get her out. She’s barely hanging onto life and they don’t know if she’ll make it. This brings everyone back home to Dad’s house where the sisters end up bonding with one another again.
Maggie is an extremely high powered attorney who has so much money they are swimming in it. Everything she owns is top quality, right down to her barely there hot hair!
Sarah, alone, suffering from depression, with no friends, and she’s single, too, doesn’t even want to leave her apartment every day, but does so to see Maggie.
How this accident brings these amazing sisters bonded back together again, is even better than at any other time in their lives, is amazing!
I read an Advanced eReader’s Copy for this review, so this line may or may not be in the finished copy as I don’t have it to compare it to, but there was one sentence in the very beginning that instantly connected me with this book, and it was something I could relate to in a huge way, is, “Once a woman is secure in her heart and mind there’s almost no more powerful force in nature.” So true! I loved it! That set the tone in this book for me instantly! This author’s writing had me in the beginning, instantly, invested in this story to begin with, but when I came upon that, and having experienced that exact thought/event in my own life, this author hit it head-on! I knew her book was going to be great from that one sentence! Sure enough!
Have you read a Robyn Carr novel yet? I HIGHLY recommend it! This was my first novel by her, and I am an now an ‘over-the-moon fan’! I see what everyone loves about her books and why they hit the the NY Times Bestseller lists!
I loved this book, LOVE her writing, and LOVED the story and how she portrayed life as regular, everyday occurrences we can ALL relate to! Let’s say I really enjoyed this story, and it sounds like I would love ALL her books! I have a ‘new to me’ author to follow and read, with a LOT of books to catch up on that she has written! I’m SO excited! I received this book for FREE from the publisher, Harlequin/Mira, the ebook from NetGalley in exchange to read and write a review about it. It is NOT required for this review to be either positive or negative, but of my own honest opinion. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to read this book nor to write this review, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it. Thank you to the person who gave my Facebook accounts MALWARE, and my computer thanks you, too!

Dear "Whoever" HATES Laurie at the blog of: Laurie Here - Contemporary Fiction and MORE - Book Reviews AND sent my Facebook pages MALWARE:

I would like to start off by "thanking" the person who invited me to look at their NEW Book Blog on Facebook!
You were SO KIND TO ME, you complimented my Facebook page and my blog, the reviews I write, etc.! Plus you explained you made your own NEW Facebook page AND a NEW BOOK BLOG because you liked mine so much! I felt SO complimented! THANK YOU!!! Well . . . somehow my Facebook accounts were ATTACKED WITH MALWARE AS "SOON" AS I CLICKED ON THE LINK!!!
THIS IS WHY I KNOW THIS IS A PERSONAL ATTACK DONE TO ME.
You were HOPING I wouldn't check the link you left me for your Facebook page, nor for anything else, and no, I did not because you were so kind and nice to me and WERE NOW A FELLOW BLOGGER - BUT YOU LIED! YOU SET ME UP TO TAKE A HUGE FALL!
I replied back with a CONGRATULATIONS to you!!! I was ready to help you in any way I could, YOU, a STRANGER! Out of my sheer kindness! I was ready to help you in ANY way to help get you up and off your feet so you could enjoy the LOVE of blogging about books just like I do! I remember how badly I wanted to get going when I first started writing my blog!
You ALSO asked me for feedback about your NEW blog! I was so excited and happy for you! I told you if you EVER needed help, I'm just a message away, etc., etc.
So I clicked on the LINK YOU GAVE ME, just like you asked me to, and as it was loading and brought up about half the page, you could almost draw a line from the left upper (top) area and down to the bottom right side - it had kites in the blue sky and it looked like computer graphics. It looked extremely nice for a first time BOOK BLOGGER making a page! Congrats because you had to have invested a lot of money to make your page it was SO nice!! I don't think you are new any longer or else your new blog never would look that nice and really cute, but I can't see it now because you set me up and YOU MALWARED MY COMPUTER! You messed my Facebook account up SO BADLY, you know EXACTLY what you did. You even got my computer, but I have special software to catch that, thankfully!
NOW MY FACEBOOK ACCOUNT IS FROZEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS "IF" THEY CAN FIX IT!
You are SUCH A NICE AND THOUGHTFUL PERSON!
What did "I" EVER "do" to you?
NOTHING.
WHY? BECAUSE I DON'T PLAY IMMATURE LITTLE GIRL, HIGH SCHOOL MEAN GIRL GAMES BY TALKING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE AND PUTTING THEM DOWN OR THINKING ABOUT TERRIBLE THINGS I COULD DO AND THEN GONE AND DONE THE THINGS YOU HAVE SAID YOU WOULD DO TO THEIR BLOGS, FACEBOOK PAGES, AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE YOU HAVE DONE TO OTHERS AND NOW TO ME! OUR BLOGS ARE PEOPLE! YES! THERE ARE REAL, LIVE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BLOGS YOU READ!
I have NEVER talked behind ANYONE'S back, OR ABOUT ANY OTHER BLOGGER IN A BAD WAY - EVER - AND I CAN PUBLICLY ADMIT THIS! DO YOU KNOW HOW GREAT THIS FEELS TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT?!!
I don't believe in High School babbling! I've grown up! I could go on and on and on, but I REFUSE TO because I don't have the TIME to take to play games!
I should have known something was up because I got a notice from Facebook telling me someone was trying to access my Facebook account earlier this week and it would be a good idea for me to change my password and I did! HA, HA, ON THAT! I KEPT YOU OUT OF MY ACCOUNT, BUT WHY? YOU PAID ME BACK WITH AN ATTACK OF MALICIOUS SOFTWARE. YOU WORKED AT GETTING MY ACCOUNTS HACKED! WOW!
I have NEVER stepped on ANY OTHER BLOGGER/READER/OR ANYONE ELSE'S TOES WHATSOEVER, OR AT LEAST TO MY KNOWLEDGE, AND IF I HAVE, I DON'T EVEN KNOW I DID IT AND I TRULY APOLOGIZE, BUT WHAT YOU DID IS PRACTICALLY UNFORGIVABLE!
HOW OLD ARE YOU?????????????
I am ALWAYS kind and considerate to everyone, so WHY would you be so CRUEL as to do this to me? You know what the NIGHTMARE it is to fix all of this - IF it can be fixed at all!!!
I have probably have lost my accounts, etc., etc., because YOU KNOW I CAN'T GET THEM BACK EASILY BECAUSE IT TOOK YEARS TO GROW MY AUDIENCE ON FACEBOOK! Almost 7,000 LIKES - LOST! NICE JOB! Even my personal Facebook page is FROZEN IN TIME until Facebook can clear my account.
Has this satisfied your MEAN SPIRIT LITTLE GIRL?
I want you to know I believe in KARMA, that is: what goes around comes back around and does something bad to you just like YOU did it to the person you enjoyed seeing it be done to that something or someone you didn't like, and I'd be willing to guess there are a LOT of people out there you have issues with! (I thought I would explain what Karma is just in case you are too young to know what 'karma' is) and one day, even if it takes a DECADE OR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, IT "WILL" COME BACK TO GET YOU.
NO, I do NOT want to be that fly on the wall when it happens because "I" am not like you are. I "don't do" MEAN AND NASTY SPIRITED THINGS TO OTHER PEOPLE, EVER! I AM NOT AND NEVER WAS A MEAN HIGH SCHOOL GIRL like you are. It is not in my nature. Wishing Karma on you is not something "I" do. KARMA HAPPENS ALL on it's own, and it happens to ALL of us! WHAT YOU PUT OUT THERE INTO THE UNIVERSE COMES BACK TO HAUNT US ALL! IT'LL COME BACK YOUR WAY! I PROMISE YOU THAT, like it or not! We ALL need to watch out for Karma!!
You know . . . !!!
My blog must be a huge threat to you, OR ARE YOU JEALOUS? Is that it??? JEALOUSY? You cannot be jealous of LOVE. That is why I write my book blog - from my LOVE of reading!!!! There are not enough people out there who LOVE reading enough as it is! We do need MORE bloggers who LOVE to write book reviews!!! Have you ever noticed as new blogs are born, they still get books from the publishers? They DO! If the publishers see you like to read and you DO write book reviews! Once you hit writing 100+ book reviews on Amazon, "that alone" gets you noticed! There is NO reason to kill off your competition by trying to kill their computers! That is just a WRONG thing to do!
If it is my blog that gives you competition, and that makes you upset for my SUCCESS, I'm sorry but it's not success, it's what I LOVE to do!
There are a LOT of things I LOVE to do, but physically I can no longer do them. Read 'About Me' on that page at my blog. That will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know. I've had enough of my body taken away from me by a NASTY muscle disease I would NEVER wish upon my worse enemy! To be honest, because of this disease, and the great difficulty and the pain it causes just to be a passenger riding in a car, I haven't left this house except to go to all of my Dr's appointments I have many times through the year and other than that to my own mother's funeral back in September of 2010! Pretty pathetic, huh? So I WILL keep writing about what I LOVE - books! You won't get me to stop! Frankly, you are taking up my time right now - AWAY FROM READING, AND I DON'T APPRECIATE IT! I HATE, HATE having to deal with a person like you who ONLY has it "out" for me! You are CLEARLY wasting my time! You will be wasting MORE of my time EVERY DAY AS I TRY TO GET FACEBOOK TO FIX BOTH MY PERSONAL AND MY BLOG'S ACCOUNTS! I WILL ADMIT I AM SOOOOO ANGRY AT YOU RIGHT NOW FOR WASTING MY TIME I . . . won't even say anymore! No point in it, and NO point in getting myself worked up over because even getting upset can cause muscle spasms! FRANKLY, MY DEAR, "YOU" ARE NOT WORTH MY HEALTH!!!
Again, my blog's a success is a show of my LOVE FOR THE WRITTEN WORD BETWEEN TWO COVERS, OR ON THE SCREEN OF MY FAVORITE EREADER, MY KINDLE, AND WRITING MY BOOK REVIEWS! If people LIKE that, then I am HAPPY! I have accomplished what I set out to do! That is TRULY what I consider success is! Sharing with other people! You can look at that any way you want!
There is NOTHING MORE THAT I LOVE TO DO THAN READING! Reading, for myself, is a WONDERFUL escape from life! It's another world! Have you experienced forgetting EVERYTHING around you and ONLY being stuck (on purpose!) in the center of a story? You are a witch in the medieval time! Bring with you a part of his family then writing a review is my success!  Thank YOU for showing ME how much YOU LOVE MY BLOG, really!
This is more of a compliment that you WANT what I have made! Thank you, again!
In some way my blog makes you angry, scares you that you will NEVER be able to achieve what you want to, and you won't, because you are not AT your blog writing reviews! You are too busy trying to damage other people! This shows us how you act!
Maybe if you would QUIT trying to RUIN OTHER PEOPLE'S THINGS, THINGS THEY HAVE MADE, and done, AND DEDICATE "YOUR" TIME TO YOUR OWN BLOG, you would be able to accomplish more at your own blog! Wow! What a concept!
It's kind of funny how you cannot tolerate other people's success (not even success, but PURE JOY of being able to do something I love to do!) so you have to not only threaten, but DO SOMETHING HORRIBLE TO OTHER PEOPLE (myself, in this instance) TO SHOW HOW ANGRY "YOU ARE" AT THOSE OF US IN UTTER BLISS FOR LOVING AND LIVING THE HOBBY I/WE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TO DO!
I have put in OVER 5 YEARS OF PURE BLISS doing my blog! I love it, and even if you DID do this to me, it won't change ONE minute of my enjoyment of doing this!! I will continue on
Have you read my page at my blog, About Me? This is a hobby for me! Imagine if I were able to work! WOW!!! I would have an amazing, full income earning blog in a flash! Unfortunately, I am not able to work at that high of a level as my health has to interfere quite a bit at times, but just imagine! Oh, yes! I DO think of that sometimes! If only I could! I would LOVE it even MORE! Now I am just doing what I can when I can. Makes you mad, huh?
MY "HOPE" IS YOU LEARNED FROM WHAT YOU DID. I HOPE IT EATS AWAY AT YOU, at your subconscious mind . I HOPE YOU ARE EMBARRASSED BY WHAT YOU DID. I HOPE YOU GET CAUGHT ONE DAY, TOO.
YOU CAN'T BLAME ME FOR WISHING THAT TO HAPPEN!
JUST GROW UP LITTLE HIGH SCHOOL MEAN GIRL!
FOCUS ON YOUR OWN BLOG INSTEAD OF DAMAGING OTHER PEOPLE'S!

#REVIEW "The Witch of Painted Sorrows" (The Daughters of La Lune) by M.J. Rose

DESCRIPTION:
Possession. Power. Passion. New York Times bestselling novelist M. J. Rose creates her most provocative and magical spellbinder yet in this gothic novel set against the lavish spectacle of 1890s Belle Époque Paris.

Sandrine Salome flees New York for her grandmother’s Paris mansion to escape her dangerous husband, but what she finds there is even more menacing. The house, famous for its lavish art collection and elegant salons, is mysteriously closed up. Although her grandmother insists it’s dangerous for Sandrine to visit, she defies her and meets Julien Duplessi, a mesmerizing young architect. Together they explore the hidden night world of Paris, the forbidden occult underground and Sandrine’s deepest desires.

Among the bohemians and the demi-monde, Sandrine discovers her erotic nature as a lover and painter. Then darker influences threaten—her cold and cruel husband is tracking her down and something sinister is taking hold, changing Sandrine, altering her. She’s become possessed by La Lune: A witch, a legend, and a sixteenth-century courtesan, who opens up her life to a darkness that may become a gift or a curse.

This is Sandrine’s “wild night of the soul,” her odyssey in the magnificent city of Paris, of art, love, and witchery.

MY TAKE:
4.5 STARS
I found this book to be spellbinding! Not only this book, but all of this author's books for that matter! For those of you who know the types of books I like to read, this is way off my regular beaten path, but I love these! I cannot get enough of them, and when a new one comes out, I cannot wait to get lost in the next new story!
I read these books like the Library Journal (Starred Review) said they are, "an Adult Fairy Tale”.
I would be willing to state that readers who are new to this author might feel the beginning of this particular book may feel slow at first, but it needs to be so it can literally paint the picture for what is yet to come. Without this, we would be lost in many places throughout this story. Relax, enjoy what you’re reading, and know you’re going to read a story that you will be able to connect with and love!
I knew what to expect going into this book, and looked forward to it very much. I was anxious to see how how La Lune, the witch, was to possess Sandrine and how it would play out, and it's through the entire book! I loved it! It's about the Art, too, the paintings that La Lune painted through Sandrine as that is what this witch was known for, her painting. Sandrine was probably one of the best people La Lune had because she loved Art already.
Sit back as you are transported back to the dark, 1890’s gothic, Paris, France. As soon as Sandrine steps off the ship, you can feel that she is now in a darker, secretive, more powerful place. Sandrine is trying to escape and hide from her abusive husband who is not as gentle and kind as a husband should be, and he was tied into something with her father too. She knows she can go and live with her grandmother. Sandrine knew she could take refuge there. Grandmother used to be and still is a ‘courtesan’, but Sandrine ends up at a different home, a hotel, not the house as it is being renovated, or at least that is what grandmother tells Sandrine, but she doesn’t believe her, not for a minute!
Sandrine is warned not go to the house, but Sandrine, you will learn, has a constitution of her own. She follows grandmother to the house one day and saw there were no renovations taking place, but people were in and out like they always had been. But why? Why would she lie? She keeps this knowledge to herself for now.
At the house, she feels a pull to it, or something in this house wants her, and she wants it, whatever it is. Now she must know more about it. Sandrine is really drawn to the bell tower on her grandmother’s property. After grandmother left with her company, Sandrine goes into the house, but not far as she intended as she meets a man named Julien. He is an architect who is cataloging the house. They left and talked about Alchemy. Since he is an architect and had been hired to restore the house with the alchemic medallions all through it. While talking and being together with him, she could feel herself being drawn to this man. Is this what her grandmother meant? She could see herself doing private things with this man and tried to put them out of her mind.
Later, Grandmother asks about Sandrine’s marriage and she tells her the truth, and Grandmother agrees with her that that is no marriage and she felt for her about what she went through, but she would learn more about love and sensuality while she was here now in Paris. She didn't ask how, just accepted the statement.
A little later a relative dies. While at the cemetery she sees ghouls, ghosts, and other things. She learns she has to ignore these these things and not look at them. Sandrine and others will surprise you as to who she really is now that Paris is inside of her, or is it the ghost, Le Lane, from the house, whom her grandmother is afraid will take over Sandrine’s body?
Sandrine starts to blossom! So much so, she does take Julien on as a lover, but she finds out he has a secret. She is in love with him now.
She, or is it Le Lane, wants to become a professional painter, and not having painted before, is painting well enough to get accepted into very well known school, but only men are allowed to go here so Sandrine dresses up like a man and is accepted! When she takes off the wig and mustache, the school has issues with that as they find out Sandrine is a woman and only men have ever gone to that Art school. She does get accepted after all!
Oh, there is so much more to this story! I don’t want to tell you everything, and I have not in this little bit in the beginning (HOW anyone can think this is slow is beyond me!)
Now grandmother fools Sandrine and gets her into a church of which she cannot escape. Grandmother states Sandrine needs an exorcism, that the witch, La Lune, has possessed Sandrine. Sandrine wonders if she has changed that much? Has La Lune taken over her that much? She didn’t care. She wanted to paint, and she was going to! She fights with all she’s got!
There is so much MORE! You are glued to this book losing sleep over it, too because you can't put this down! The rest is for you to escape into! There is so much more to this story and more to come that you must read this one for yourself!
I need to warn you, though, for those of you who are used to the type of books I read, this one is very different than books you are used to me reviewing. There are parts in this book that have some sexual situations, it's very dark, and it involves spirits, the occult, witches/witchcraft, and a possession. The witchcraft that plays out is dark for anyone who tries to help them. If this is something you don't prefer to read about, I've warned you.
There is just something about this author's books that put you under their spell as you are reading them and you can't get enough. You're not going to want to stop reading and enjoying these books, either, until you are done and you won't forget these stories, either! When I got the opportunity to read and review “The Collector of Dying Breaths” by this author, her previous book, that was it! I fell in love with that book and this author's writing! (You can read that review HERE!Remember when I reviewed the Adult version of the Buzz Books (that review is HERE.) This book was in the Adult version book with a chapter or two, and I knew I was going to LOVE this book, too! Sure enough, I did!
These books by this author can be about anything, and I’ll never be able to get enough of them! I never thought these types of books would appeal to me either, but they sure do! I enjoy escaping life completely into these stories and forgetting everything about what's going on in my own life! I do have to say, this author does have a knack for this style of writing, and it is this writing that continues to pull me back book after book! Now I can’t wait for the next book and I want it now! LOL!
I received this book for FREE from the publisher, Atria Books, and NetGalley, in exchange to read and write a review about it. It is NOT required for this review to be either positive or negative, but of my own honest opinion. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to read this book nor to write this review, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it. The #NYTimes TOP 15 (20) #Bestsellers in #Fiction/Week ending 3-14-15 + #Blog Updates!

Welcome! It's been another week of great books, and I can't wait to see what books hit the list! This post is always up by NOON every Sunday and most of the time earlier!

LAST WEEK'S WINNER:
Hi everyone! The winner from last week was Librarian Lavender! Yes, the random.org chose #1! She was #1! I've emailed her this morning! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thank you to EVERYONE who enters these little impromptu contests! YOU are the lucky ones as these are not planned! More of you win this way, too! Congrats to you all! We'll resume these after the Hops and Giveaways! If I could or had MORE money to buy more books for you, I would! :)

I do believe I missed choosing the winner for the $10 and under book. I have to double-check that, and I'll let you know! I'll schedule that announcement for next Sunday!

REVIEW LAST WEEK AT THE BLOG!
"Lacy Eye" by Jessica Treadway HERE! I LOVED this book! I was so absorbed in the story! It had me on the very first page! It was a psychological thriller and it's a one person narrative, and it's GREAT! I could not put it down! You'll have to read the review!
I have another review that is done, for the most part, for "The Promise" by Beth Wiseman, and I'm having a heck of a time calling it out for what it is! I've been working on it for 1-1/2 WEEKS! "I" believe the book is about Human Trafficking, but the author does not call it that. She glosses it over and wants us to focus on the difference between the religions at play. WHAT??? This is exactly why I QUIT reading and reviewing 'christian' books! (I had requested this from NetGalley before I made that decision.) MOST of the christian authors 'seem' to not like the BAD stuff in life, so they DO gloss it over, and I'm tired of that. They DON'T call things what they should be called, and Human Trafficking is pretty serious, but instead, on this one, the author asks us to look at the differences of their and our religions??????? I can't do it!!! There is something MUCH more important at play with this book!!! See! I'm getting ALL worked up over it now! This is how it's been ALL this time as I've been trying to type it out! UGH!!!! I'll get it done! It's just a matter of time and until I get it the way I want it. It WILL have Spoilers in it - just a warning!!
Anyone ever have a review to write like this before?

MORE reviews will be coming this week! This book, too, WILL get posted!!
Another NEW review ON TUESDAY, TOO! So MUCH is going on on Tuesday! Maybe I'll hold this one off until Wednesday? We'll see! It's an MJ Rose book called The Witch of Painted Sorrows! I love her books! There is always an air of mystery to them, among many other things! I LOVE the stories that take us to the Medieval days!

THIS COMING WEEK AT THE BLOG - GIVEAWAYS!
This week I'm not holding a giveaway 'here' in this post today as I explained above, because this week is the start of '2' NEW ones on Tuesday, March 17th! Mark your calendars, OR watch the feeds to come back that day or after for the $250 Giveaway and Blog Hops!
ALWAYS WATCH THE UPPER LEFT COLUMN FOR GIVEAWAYS GOING ON!

Well, I usually miss something EVERY WEEK! I 'think' I got it all covered! No doubt I forgot something, but that just keeps you coming back! LOL! Have a GREAT week!
