Don't miss the newest offering in the Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel series from Amy ClipstonA Mother's SecretAn unwed Amish woman yearns for real love and a family. The only thing in her way is the shame she’s been carrying for half of her life. The novel received 4-1/2 stars from Romantic Times and was chosen as a Top Pick.

And this is what I think about this book:
4 Stars!
The full name of this book is A Mother's Secret, Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel series, Book 2. I read this as a stand alone and did not have any trouble. I don't know if these characters are in her previous book or not, and I don't believe they are because this author has the third book in this series coming out in print and ebook this Fall/2014, and the small description about A Dream Home, Hearts of the Lancaster Grand Hotel series Book 3, has different characters in it.
I always love every book that Amy Clipston writes, and the same is true with this book about the Amish.
Caroline, 31, is an unwed single mother to 15 year old Benjamin. She got pregnant when she was just 16 years old, and her boyfriend left town to go to Missouri. He did not even know about Caroline being pregnant as she did not even get the chance to tell him before he left. Caroline had/has no way of even finding him to be able to tell him.
In one part of this book a character mentioned to her that she had a son who disappeared 15 years ago, too, and I thought for a minute there we just might . . . but no, the author did not take it any further than that. I thought she 'could have' taken that one further, and thought she should have just to put our wondering minds at ease!
Caroline was punished and is STILL being punished for her sin she committed, despite what the Amish say that God forgives you once you have asked for forgiveness. To this day people still punish her despite her asking for forgiveness.
Since Caroline is now 31 years old and her parents and other people say she is going to be an 'old maid' more or less, and they want to set her up to marry a nice widowed Amish man who they feel is suitable for her. The problem is Caroline does not feel she needs to marry for convenience purposes and she won't. The only way she'll marry is for love.
The punishment rolls over to her son, too. If anything bad happens, he is blamed. One day the boys he was hanging around with threw stones and hurt a horse hurting it pretty badly. Benjamin got blamed for it, as usual. As punishment for this, he is sent to a man named Joshua who owns a horse farm, and he has to work until he has earned enough money to pay for the damages. None of the other boys are blamed as Benjamin is the only one singled out, which is not fair.
Meanwhile, this same Joshua, 40, never married either, owns and runs this this horse farm in honor of his dead brother. He is going through the same thing Caroline is in that his mother and others feel it is time for him to settle down and get married. They even know of the right woman for him, but he is not interested in her at all. He doesn't come out and say this, but in other ways says and show he is not going to marry at all. His mother has other ideas for him, still.
Both of these two characters wonder over and over again throughout this story, repeatedly, if they will ever find anyone worthy of falling in love with. Maybe the Amish worry too much about things.
Excellent book! Very enjoyable and written by one highly regarded author, in my book and many others! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I received this book for FREE from the Publisher, Zondervan, and NetGalley, in exchange to read and write a review about it. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to do so, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it and giving my own honest opinion no matter whether it is positive or negative.
