"One Tiny Lie" by K A Tucker - REVIEW

DESCRIPTION:
Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

My Take:
4 Stars
This is Book Two in the "Ten Tiny Breaths" series by K A Tucker. (Book One is Ten Tiny Breaths, and yes, that book took my breath away!) With that said, I was extremely anxious to read this one!
One Tiny Lie was written just as great as the first book, and did not disappoint in the least! I love reading K A Tucker's writing. She is another great author who can connect her characters with her Readers instantly. I love that trait in an author!
This book is dedicated to Livie, little sister to Kacey from Book One. Livie DID make it into Princeton after all! Cheers! Although, with this little smarty, there never was a question about that, was there?!
Livie's roommate, Reagan, on the very first night she makes it into her dorm room grabs her and introduces her to her first huge college party! Reagan wants Livie to let loose, soften up, meet new people, and that she does! Instead of going by the name of Livie, now she has a new name of Irish! Long story you'll have to read about! Ashton gave her that name, and Ooooo, Ashton! He is HOT, HOT, HOT! You just KNOW by one look at this sculpted man that Ashton has got to be a man-whore, but how could any young girl resist his charm, especially when he sucks a jello shot right out of your mouth? YES! "I" said that! (Shame!) It's IN the book, I just repeated it! LOL!
So the next morning after the huge party Livie went to, she has her first massive hangover, and wouldn't you know it, Dr Stayner ends up rearing his shiny little head! He is not treating her officially, but Dr Stayner has taken her under his wing to make sure all is well with her as she makes the transition into the next step of her well planned out life of wanting to become a Pediatrician Oncologist, her first stop, college and living life on campus at Princeton.
I don't know about Dr Stayner. I am extremely interested to read Book Three to find out if Dr Stayner has some type of familial relationship to the girls they don't know about? He just always seems to know when they need him most, among other things. He ends up helping someone else in this story, too, but I'll never give away a spoiler! There is just something about him that doesn't sit quite right with me in the way he is always there. Hard to describe, but I just have a feeling there is more to Dr Stayner than what we know so far. We'll see as this series plays out. I'm pretty interested in finding out.
Livie starts to date Connor, HOT Ashton's friend, although Livie knows the attraction for Connor is not there, at least it's not there like it is with Ashton. She bides her time, trying to decide when and how to break it off from the very beginning. Yes, she really is drawn to Ashton, and Ashton is drawn to her, despite girlfriends, etc.
There would not be an amazing moment in this book if a shocking issue(s) did not arise, and just 'who' they arise in will astound you! It did me!
This book really focuses on Livie's growth along with all of her friends' too, plus the adapting of new relationships as they are formed in college between all of these characters. Parts of this book are extremely moving, for instance,, prior to college you may think Livie is just a nerd who will never adapt to letting hers inhibitions loose, and the same for her friends, but the distance between her and her friends' homes from the college really helps them all fight those demons they all have hidden deep inside to get rid of them and to flourish awau from their families, as needed..Livie really grows on her own, which she really needed to learn to do.
As for the outlook on her future and what she wants to do, that is touched upon in quite a way, too. Again, periodically, Dr Stayner pops his head in again to check on things with her. He is a very caring person.
I highly recommend this series of books! I love the storylines in this series, and love the character's interaction, learning about life, and what they want to do when they grow up. K A Tucker is an amazing author the way she writes these stories. All of these books in this series can be read as a standalone's, too. You do not need to read the books in order to enjoy them, but, it is kind of nice to read them in order to see the characters from the previous book make a short, quick appearance here and there! I love that!
I received this book for FREE from Simon and Schuster/A Division of Atria and NetGalley in exchange to read and write a review about it. It is NOT required for this review to be either positive or negative, but of my own honest opinion. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to read this book nor to write this review, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it.
