MY TAKE:
Oh . . . My . . . GENIUS of a story!
Yes! Colleen Hoover has just written another knock-out book, AGAIN! EVERY book she writes sweeps us off our feet into a world of characters we can so relate to . . . it’s magical! This one is no exception! I started this book one evening planning to finish it the next day, but I ended up staying awake all night long getting no sleep because I HAD to read this entire book in one sitting! I could not put it down, like all the others she has written!
Her first book, “Slammed” was really neat in that it had lyrics in it from the Avett Brothers, but, to have REAL music we could listen to at the tips of our fingers by clicking on a link (for the ebook) or using your cell phone and clicking on the bar code in the paperback, was AMAZING! Music and the story at the same time was incredible! The way this was done really brought this story to life even more so than Slammed did, or ANY other book, for that matter!
I did read this book straight through, except for the few breaks to listen to the music and lyrics these characters from the book made it was a wonderful experience! The lyrics hit in all the right places (Okay, maybe I might have listened to some of the songs a few times!) This was a spectacular experience Colleen Hoover came up with!
Griffin Peterson is the musician and he did a truly beautiful job. The best thing is you can also purchase the music as a CD, or from iTunes, Amazon and Google Play! (I hope I have all of these down correctly.) This is the first time any book has been written like this, and I personally just loved it! This book may just be one of her best yet by having music and lyrics come together because it brings the book alive while reading these characters’ story,
Sydney writes the lyrics and Ridge plays the music, and together it was an amazing experience to hear the songs come alive! To be able to hear them immediately and not have to imagine it, or go out and buy it was such an experience! Let alone Colleen’s written words are like music singing through her books anyway!
I went into this book not having a clue as to what to expect from this story. I did not read the description or anything about it, and that is how I wanted it to be. I am going to leave the surprises/any spoilers out of this review so you don’t go into this book with preconceived notions, or expect anything in particular to happen. This makes writing this review a little bit tougher to do.
During the beginning of the book, we meet Sydney. She loves to sit outside of her apartment on her balcony patio at certain times in the evening because there is this guy on the other side of the courtyard who plays his guitar then. She loves the music he plays, and she has her own lyrics she made up to his music given she doesn't officially know him or if the music has lyrics to the songs. Her lyrics goes along with several of the different songs he strums on his guitar, and he has no idea she has done this, yet this is what he needs most are lyrics, and what eventually pulls them together. We'll find out Ridge thinks he is terrible at writing lyrics, and loves what Sydney comes up with. I'm getting ahead of myself here, so I'm going to back up to the beginning.
Sydney finds out that her JERK of a two-year boyfriend, Hunter, is CHEATING ON HER WITH HER BEST FRIEND, TORI! Tori happens to live with Sydney and Hunter, so they are both going behind her back doing this. Sydney gets so angry! She sure can throw one heck of a right hook! She packs her bags and leaves as fast as she can, but now she realizes she ends up homeless as she is storming out of what she thought was her home. Now she is stranded with nowhere to go, sitting on a suitcase crying because she doesn't even have her purse as she forgot that in the apartment, and all be darned if she was going to go back in there to get it. Now she's trying to figure out what she's going to do.
A woman comes up to Sydney and grabs her suitcase and tells her to follow her. Sydney ends up in the guitar guy’s apartment! Surprise, surprise! O M Greatness! Although she is still sick over what she just found out, here is guitar-boy! She is dying! Events transpire, Sydney ends up being invited to stay until she can save up some money to get an apartment of her own.
It is during this time that Sydney and Ridge learn from each other about Sydney's talent with writing lyrics and Ridge's incredible talent of making music, and the both of them together are a force to be reckoned with as they are so good doing this together. Ridge has found his muse in Sydney. He feels without her cannot do the lyrics as she is such an inspiration for him to write his music. Approved by the entire band, Sydney’s lyrics end up making this band’s songs while these two are fighting their attraction toward each other. Why? Ridge has a girlfriend! Maggie! Ugh! He is extremely dedicated to her, too.
Both characters have their own demons to fight, some seen and some not seen. Some even held secret. It's about relationships and trust between people. Sydney and Ridge feel it’s not fair to Maggie for Sydney to step in their way, and she does not want to do to Ridge and Maggie what Hunter and Tori did to her, even if their attraction is SO strong.  It's amazing!
I don't want this review to sound so vague, but  at the same time I don’t want to give too much away right from the start as it would be very easy to do, There is something pretty darned special about Ridge.
Oh! There is SO MUCH to this story I want to tell you, but I can’t ruin ANY part of it for you! If I tell you one thing it will lead to another and another and then another, and I can’t do that to you. You have got to read this one! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE who loves a great love story - READ THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY!
Enjoy every single part of this story! It was WONDERFUL! Well, this story is by Colleen Hoover. Need I say more?! She can spin stories so well it's sucks you in and doesn't let go of your heart no matter what your age is.
