The First Lie by Diane Chamberlain - REVIEW

Description:
An e-original short story that sets the stage for bestselling author Diane Chamberlain’s upcoming novel Necessary Lies(September 2013).

The First Lie gives readers an early glimpse into the life of thirteen-year-old Ivy Hart. It’s 1958 in rural North Carolina, where Ivy lives with her grandmother and sister on a tobacco farm. As tenant farmers, Ivy and her family don’t have much freedom, though she and her best friend, Henry, often sneak away in search of adventure…and their truest selves. But life on the farm takes a turn when Ivy’s teenage sister gives birth—all the while maintaining her silence about the baby’s father. Soon Ivy finds herself navigating the space between adolescence and adulthood as she tries to unravel a dark web of family secrets and make sense of her ever-evolving life in the segregated South.

My Take:
5 Stars!
This book makes me want to pick up Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain - Kindle and paperback versions available Sept 3rd, 2013 NOW, and I am! I am lucky enough to have the galley from NetGalley! Both  books can be Pre-Ordered through Amazon just by clicking on the title of the book. I happen to have this novel for review from the Book Buzz 2013 book I did a review on earlier this summer! This novel was one of the first I really want to read - bad! I got to read Chapters 1 and 2 so far, and was sucked into the story immediately.
So this book here is a novella ebook, kind of like a prequel, along with an excerpt from the book, Necessary Lies, and was very 'full' of suspense, intrigue, and a new baby coming from her sister, Mary Ella!
I'm hooked into this book already!
This story takes place in 1958 in the deep South, Grace County, North Carolina, so you know there is not any integration there, and this seems to be an issue there at that time.
Sweet little Ivy is our 13 year old protagonist who charms us to no end. Her innocence is charming, she gets herself into trouble, BIG trouble, as she is caught sneaking back into the house at 4:00am after being out with Henry Allen that night. They were playing with an Ouija board after breaking into the Baptist church, but the door was open, so they really didn't break in. They had just enough light from their lanterns to be able to see the board. So far the questions both of them asked the Ouija board had been correct, they guessed, and they also had met a ghost named Ruby. Ruby seemed to stay with Ivy, too. You'll learn more about that later.
Once Ivy got home, she found out her sister, Mary Ella, who was pregnant, was in labor. She was told to go get the Social Worker, and little Ivy felt she needed to get the nurse. Nonnie, who was their Grandmother, seemed to be confused. Also, for some reason, after Mary Ella had the baby, she needed to get her Appendix out. Ivy questioned this, and she was also worried about it because a girl in her school died when her appendix exploded. What about Mary Ella?
I loved this Novella and am really looking forward to reading this book! The story really pulled you into the story immediately, making you want more right away.
